Breaking for Lunch

Welcome » Recipes » Breaking for Lunch

When breaking for lunch, do you crave a punch of flavor? We do! It doesn’t have to be a heavy meal, but we feel it should wake up your mouth to carry us through to dinner. That often translates into a salad or side paired with a protein to give it more substance. We call that reverse portioning. Mark did not readily embrace this idea, but I am slowly winning him over.

He is a runner, and we both like to hike, and so we have to manage our intake when our belts get too tight. A flavor-filled lunch makes it easier to go a little lighter. Sometimes that means bringing the heat. Other times we add plenty of spice. One of Mark’s specialties is a robust ranch dressing that brings life to our salads. Another favorite is a sesame oil dressing that perfectly completes our grain bowl salad. We use whatever grains and seeds we have on hand… but we keep coming back to that dressing because it packs so much flavor.
