The third edition is finally coming! The manuscript is in the proof stage and should be on the shelf by the end of April.
I planned on publishing this third edition by the end of 2015, but the next recipe just kept calling me. Meanwhile, we traveled, moved several times, and I started a nonprofit focusing on literacy in the Charlotte area.
Finally, last October, my husband Mark threw out a challenge to set a hard deadline. It was just the kick-start I needed (I always love a challenge), and so here we are! The third edition will be on the shelf by the end of April.
In the previous editions, I thanked my mother, who always made me feel confident in the kitchen. Last spring my dear, sweet mother left this world at the rich, wise age of 93, and so I am dedicating this edition in her memory. This photo captures one of our favorite memories of Mom, back in 2009 while she was living with us in Louisburg, Kansas. She loved baking bread for us as much as we loved eating it! The aroma of her freshly baked bread is as vivid to me today as it was ten years ago.
As I posted this picture, I suddenly realized that my original recipe binder is sitting on the counter next to Mom. I love that! That binder housed years of notes and records of recipe trials. As I experimented, our kitchen often looked a little like a laboratory and Mom always smiled upon it all.
The third edition of the cookbook captures even more memories of Mom and family and friends who generously shared favorite recipes and family traditions with me. It holds memories of travel with my husband Mark, food adventures, and the interesting people we met along the way.
This version of the cookbook is expanded, revised, and improved with twice the recipes, updated instructions, and extra method pictures. Mom would have loved it, and I hope you will, too!
