Looking for Mr Wong

()

2015 Sydney, Australia: Mark and I are on a mission, looking for the elusive Mr Wong. It’s not as easy as you might think. We read about its legendary menu and carefully plot 3 Bridge Ln on Google Maps. But, Mark and I began to doubt our sanity as we walked up and down the alley trying to locate the door.

This elusiveness seems to be a thing in Australia. (The secret speakeasy bars are tales to be told, but that is for another post.) Perhaps it is the locals trying to keep out the tourists? But we persist and score a seat in a room packed from corner to corner. The fried brown rice bowl’s reputation is the reason we are here, and so we order it without hesitation. And then the crispy eggplant is calling our names, and so we add it to the order. The menu is outstanding, and it is all we can do to resist ordering more.

Now we have time to sit back and admire our surroundings. Modern Cantonese cuisine meets timeless French decor in this fabulous space. The mood is upscale and casual all at once. Dim lights and dressed-up clientele are steps away from the open kitchen and the famous rows of duck in various states of preparation. The atmosphere is warm, and the night is early, and we know this evening is a memory in the making.

It is worth looking for Mr Wong. You can locate him on Facebook, Instagram, and Google Maps.
