A Banana Smoothie instantly makes you feel like you are on vacation. Do you have bananas past their prime? Don’t throw them out! Their sweetness and soft texture make them perfect for smoothies. Just remove the darkened skins, and then freeze the flesh in tightly sealed bags until you are ready to transform them into a quick breakfast or afternoon snack. For an extra-special treat, add 2-3 tablespoons of spiced rum.

If you have nutmeg, be sure to use it. It takes this smoothie to another dimension. And for an extra-special treat, add a couple of tablespoons of rum, and imagine yourself on a beach somewhere. Of course, this works best if you are lounging on a sunny balcony or patio!

WHAT YOU NEED WHAT TO DO WHY
  • 1 ⅓ cups whole milk
  • 2 frozen overripe bananas, broken into several pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
In a blender or food processor, purée to perfect smoothness (1-2 minutes). Serve in attractive glasses with straws; finish with an additional pinch ground nutmeg, if desired. Overripe bananas are intensely sweet and purée smoothly in a blender.
